Yesterdays dive:-

Posted by david on September 24, 2009

It started out with a bright sunny morning with super calm seas. The first dive was at the Chinese Reef, where we saw a huge Sting Ray and a couple of Lion fish. The Nurse Shark we saw the day before eluded us.

The second dive at the Throne Room was going great , then suddenly we heard the “phfft” sound of the dolphins exhaling. We thought they would have gone over to the divers but they werent interested. They jumped and played within 20 feet of the dive boat for a good 10 minutes. Naturally I took the opportunity to jump in with snorkel gear and swim with them while Al, a local divemaster candidate, watched from the boat.

There were seven of them, all seemed like a  group of young fellows with sizes ranging from 3 to 6 feet long. One had bruises on it’s dorsal fins, I had seen this one before, it seemed to be healing, another had white mark on the tip of its mouth/beek, like an old scar.

They allowed me to stay within 10 feet of them for a few minutes, they played and rubbed each other and jumped out and flipped I watched until I got tired and returned to the boat. Here are some facts about these amaizing creatures.

Will some one suggest names for them. I am sorry I didn’t have the camera.

Today we dive from the Negril Escape Resort and Spa. Its a 60 ft dive. Really cool and easy dive.

They are all safe!

Posted by david on September 6, 2009

This morning we were visited by 4 large dolphins while on the 10am dive. We later was able to locate another pod with seemingly older ones along with a few infants. One large adult had a very scarred dorsal fin. I wonder what would have caused that. They were messing with the fish traps.

Killer Whales

Posted by david on September 3, 2009

killer-whale-couple-nsc2A pod of Killer Whales were spotted a few hundred meters from the west end a few weeks ago,I was fearing that they may have eaten the dolphins that we frequently see while diving in Negril. I am relieved the find them again. although there seems to be a few younger ones and a few of the bigger ones are missing

dolphins-at-neg-escThis morning’s dive was absolutely amazing! We saw the dolphins jumping before us as we approached the divesite. They played and jumped while we suited up and jumped in, then one male dolphin posed while we took photos. After our second dive we caught them playing again. We snorkeled and did some more photos and videos. “Yu soo si dem”.(will post later)

Lucky Divers

Posted by david on September 1, 2009
These divers saw 4 dolphins, three male and one female, frolicking and mating while diving on the Throne Room Dive site. They said the water was milky in appearance in certain areas around the dolphins. I wonder why?
Do you believe them?
